Newborn Must-Haves

Oh, how the days (and months!) have absolutely flown by! And yet it somehow continues to just get sweeter by the second.

When I made my baby registry, I remember texting all of my mom friends begging for ideas of what I '“needed.” It turns out you truly don’t need much, but I totally understand why every mom has a handful of things she swears by! Now I’m at the point where other friends are newly expecting and they’re asking me what we love, so it’s given me a chance to reflect back on what I believe is truly worth the splurge!

TRAVEL

  • Doona Car Seat/Stroller: Leaving the house alone with a newborn is terrifying and I give this all the credit! It is so easy to clip into the base and unfold into a stroller, even freshly postpartum. 4/2025 update: Roos turned one last week and we are still using this every single day!

  • UPPAbaby Vista - Bassinet Attachment: This is where I get a little obnoxious, but I truly believe there are different strollers for different purposes. The Doona is great for errands, but the UPPA is amazing for long walks. Side note - does anyone else remember Modern Family?! As a kid I saw Mitch and Cam had an UPPA, so I had to have an UPPA. 4/2025 update: Still use this all the time, but now I’m even more annoying - we’ve introduced a Nuna Trvl for Disney and traveling, but I (and Roos) still love Doona and UPPA much more.

  • Artipoppe Carrier: A big splurge for me, but my baby absolutely loves it. 4/2025 update: Stays in my car 24/7 because we still use it so often!

CARE

  • Angel Care Baby Bathtub: I love that this lets baby sit above the water!

  • Pipette Baby Balm: We used Boudreaux’s Butt Paste at first, but the ingredients in this are so much cleaner.

  • Noodle and Boo Shampoo: Ok…we’re clearly living an 80/20 lifestyle over here. This does have a fragrance, but our baby has never had a reaction to it!

  • Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent: Back to the non-toxic goodies! I made the mistake of using a different detergent marketed for babies in the first trimester washing clothes (I was excited lol) but I had such a nauseous reaction to the smells!

MISC.

  • Piano Mat: If there’s one thing about me, we’re gonna have bright and tacky toys in the house. This is perfect for tummy time and laying baby on their back!

  • Bibs Pacifier: We didn’t introduce a pacifier until h was almost a month old or so, but he very strongly prefers Bibs over Dr. Brown’s.

  • Owlet: Lol you couldn’t comprehend my level of anxiety if you tried. I like to wake up in the middle of the night and stare at the app for live readings.

  • Zipper Swaddle: Keeps baby snug as a bug with no chance of escaping!

  • Bamboo Pajamas: A local brand for us, they are my FAVORITE. So soft, so cute and they have matching family sets!

We are very much still learning, so please share any recommendations of things you swear by!
